Polestar is taking Australia by storm offering EVs with great range and excellent EV Charger time. With another Polestar EV coming, this time a SUV is on offer bring far more choice in the EV SUV market. There’s long established Audi e-tron, BMW has the ix3 and iX, Volvo the XC40/C40 Electric, Tesla has the Model Y. But Polestar brings more choice and established EV branding with the Polestar 3.
What’s the price of a Polestar 3?
These EVs differ greatly in price, however they’re all in a very small pool of luxury and performance focused EV SUVs. In Australia, EVs are still offer limited choice in the small to midsized SUV market. Which is somewhat undesirable since most people are opting for Crossovers and Small SUVs at the moment. It’s expensive with an estimated before on-roads price starting from $135,000 AUD. Which is quite a big gap from the cheapest choice being the Tesla Model Y ($68,900 before on roads).
What’s the range of a Polestar 3?
Polestar Australia have recently published some specs for the two Polestar 3 variations. The Long Range Dual Motor version claims a range of 610 Km and the Long Range Dual Motor Performance version claims a range of 560 Km. Both ranges seem more than acceptable, for an especially big car! A Polestar 3 has the length of 4.9 meters and height of 1.6 meters.
How fast is it!
According Polestar Australia the Long Range Dual Motor can do 5 seconds to 100kmh. With the Long Range Dual Motor Performance ahead at 4.7 seconds to 100kwh! Both feature 360 and 380Kw of power with All-Wheel Drive and 2200 kgs of towing capacity.
How Long does it take to Charge?
It can be charged in as little as 30 minutes on a 250 Kwh Rapid DC Charger. But more importantly (more realistically) on a 3 phase AC Charging Station it charges at up to 11 Kwh which can do 0-100% in just 11 hrs.
What EV Charger will I need to use?
The Polestar 3 is fitted with a Type 2 EV Cable socket, which charges in single and three phase AC and also CCS (DC rapid Charging). The charging essentials you’d need would be a Portable EV Charger, a Type 2 Charging Cable and a Type 1 to Type 2 Adapter (also known as j1772 to Type 2. With these 3 items you’ll have plenty of choice and flexibility when it comes to charging.

One small thing. Polestar has long being a performance brand of Volvo. However here’s something very important to note when considering buying an EV or car in general, what’s it made off? Polestar insists that raw materials are sourced and produced responsibly, with respect for human rights, animal welfare, local communities, and ecosystems. We work with our blockchain partner Circulor to trace risk minerals and with Bridge of Weir to trace leather.
Risk materials traced up until provenance are:
- Cobalt
- Lithium
- Mica
- Nickel
- Leather
Polestar also uses animal welfare wool, traceability is certified up to the yarn stage of production. Polestar insists on conflict mineral reporting on tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold (3TG)
I hope this sets a new standard for EV manufacturing and it encourages ethical consumer behavior for all EVs in the future.
