This is the start of a significant shift for the Korean Automotive sector and perhaps a very bright future for KIA, Hyundai and Genesis. All three brands already have a fantastic name for build quality, design aesthetics and now EV innovation…
For 40 years the Korean automaker has been developing internal combustion engines to use in its vehicle lineup. From fantastic fuel efficient engines to powerful smooth/ exhilarating V6 sleepers. But now marks a new age of Hyundai’s engineering, the shift to full electrification or BEV.
The Hyundai range has 3 ranges (which are selling extremely well). The Ioniq Electric, Electric Kona and now the build from the ground up Ioniq 5…. This extends through to KIA and Genesis. The Niro, EV6, G80, GV60 and GV70 Electric.

This is not a wind down of engineering development neither. Hyundai’s new R&D chief Park Chung-kook confirmed in an email to employees that they are shutting down new engine development, but with the intention of transferring those 12,000 jobs to BEV drivetrain development!
With a growing Charging Station network across Australia, I can’t wait to see more innovation and progression from not just Hyundai, but all other Automotive Manufacturers. Perhaps we might see EV engineering innovation on our shores one day soon?
