2021 marked a significant milestone for Polestar with the expansion from 10 to 19 markets across the globe. The company delivered on its global sales target of 29,000 vehicles in 2021, year-on-year growth exceeding 185% Just in time too with Polestar’s proposed business combination with Gores Guggenheim Inc expecting to close the second half of 2022 (Nasdaq: GGPI, GGPIW, and GGPIU).
Polestar isn’t just another potential gem of stock or a new and up and coming EV manufacturer. It has a history that dates back some 25 years, well before other EV manufacturers such as Tesla or Rivian. It started as a performance engineering partner under the name Flash Engineering. In 2000s under the new name Polestar Racing Retuning and pumping out FAST and FUN Volvos, yes Volvos…
Then from 2009 Polestar became the official Volvo partner for modifying existing models offering enhanced models directly to Volvo dealers across the globe. This saw many great Volvo performance legends being the C30 Polestar, S60 Polestar (a personal favourite), V60 Polestar and even a XC60 Polestar. Very few models were sold in Australia.
With a great engineering history, Polestar in only just a few years had become a vehicle manufacturer and an impressive one too. The Polestar 1 was a head turner being a rare (but no world first) Hybrid-Electric Performance Sports Car. But the Polestar 2 is everything the Tesla Model 3 should be being. A powerful, long range EV, with a hatch and (with a real Speedometer, not a single screen)….
Polestar has a brilliant engineering history, track record for legendary, ground breaking vehicles and probably a huge Australian back order for the Polestar 2. I can’t help thinking Polestar has in for us next with the Polestar 3 or maybe 4?
Before you buy your Polestar here’s what we think you’d need:
1. Type 2 Charging Cable or the Type 2 Stretcher.
3. The Type 1 to Type 2 Adapter, also known as SAE J1772 to IEC 62196.
