The saying applies almost everywhere, it’s not the size of the Kwh, it’s how you use it. That’s very much the case with the Type 2 Portable Charger and here’s why.
Range anxiety, isn’t an issue with a Type 2 Portable Charger. It’s the 21st century spare tire built into one simple device. Modern day driving has a completely different set of issues to what we might have experienced driving fuel powered vehicles. We nolonger need to worry about getting lost (thanks to GPS), being stranded if our car breaks down (mobile phones) and having a flat tire (runflat tires). But there’s a whole new problem all together now, what do you do when you run outa juice??
When your EV runs out of power, there’s not a lot you can do. It’s not as if the NRMA can drop by with a jerrycan of electricity to help you out and no jumper cable will bail your EV out of this. The NRMA doesn’t carry 10 amp Diesel or Petrol generators on every truck either and that kinda defeats the point of an EV doesn’t it? Your best option so to wait for the tow truck and hope it gets your EV to a charging station on time (to avoid further battery damage).
But all those problems can simply go away, or might not even arise in the first place if you keep a space, a spare EV Charger that is… Yep the answer is simple, have a Type 2 Portable Charger. Most EVs come standard with a Type 2 Portable Charger, so one can charge at home on a regular outlet. But it never seems to occur to Australia EV drivers that they actually need two Type 2 Portable Chargers.
Almost all new EVs in Australia take a Type 2 Portable Charger (Mennekes Australia). Brands such as Audi, BMW, BYD, EQC, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, KIA, Mazda, Mercedes Benz, Mini, MG, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Polestar, Porsche, Renault, Tesla, Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo to name just a few. Logic tells us that it’s actually more convenient owing an EV over a petrol car, because you can recharge almost anywhere.
With Type 2 Portable Charger, we estimate there are more place to charge than there are Petrol or Diesel stations in Australia and New Zealand. At least 10+ million is our approximate figure. Why? Well.. A Type 2 Portable Charger is designed to plug into a regular 220 or 240 volt Australian/NZ outlet. No different to what one might plug their iphone, TV, Nespresso or Laptop into. If you have a Type 2 Portable Charger + EV you can theoretically just knock on a nearby building’s door vs attempting to make it to the next EV Charging Station.
So if you have just purchased or are going to purchase an EV sometime soon. Please remember to purchase an extra Type 2 Portable Charger to keep handy in the trunk, frunk, fruit or boot. For the slight chance, you may run into a pickle.
