Here’s Part 2 in our list of the hottest EV’s expect to be coming to Australian shores in 2022.
GWM Ora: Firstly we tried to get some copyright shots of the Ora, however on our search we kept on finding meditation and workout shots? lol. It’s a budget EV brand under Great Wall Motor’s ownership. It’s a small hatchback with a price range of around $45K+ and still not cheap in our view (especially for a no-name brand). Sources claim however range can be up to 420 Km. However for price and range the Nissan Leaf still appears to a strong buy for range/price in the EV hatchback space, over the Ora.
KIA EV6: We estimate a range averaging around 460Km, however range doesn’t matter with a superfast charging speed does it? The 11kW onboard charger enables AC wallbox charging, but it can also handle DC charging at a rate of 250kW, which should get the EV6 from 10 per cent to 80 per cent capacity in about 16 minutes…….
Kia Niro 2022 Update: The Niro already is a pretty awesome car, however it was late to arrive on Aussie shores. But thankfully we will be getting the new-look and even more refined Niro soon. The 7kW onboard charger enables AC wallbox charging, but it can also handle DC charging at a rate of 77kW, which should get the Niro from 10 per cent to 80 per cent capacity in about 44 minutes. It’s expected around October 2022 we expect to see perhaps even better range.
Mercedes Benz EQB, Mercedes Benz EQE, Mercedes Benz EQV and eVito: We’re expecting up to 4 new Mercedes EV models this year! As far as we can tell this is the biggest release of EV models by just one manufacturer this year and it’s a welcomed one! The EQB adds a 7 seats, yes 7 seats, with a fantastic range of up to 419Km and an estimated price of $85K+ (which is great value for a high spec and large Mercedes). The 11kW water-cooled onboard charger enables AC wallbox charging, but it can also handle DC charging at a rate of 100kW, which should get the EQB from 10 per cent to 80 per cent capacity in about 35 minutes.
The EQE is expected to be the first of many new Tesla Model S killers. With a driving range of an est 660Km and an awesome spacy screen across the whole dash. EQE prices are expected to be $150K+. The 11kW water-cooled onboard charger enables AC wallbox charging, but it can also handle DC charging at a rate of 150kW! Which should get the EQE from 10 per cent to 80 per cent capacity in about 33 minutes.
The EQV and eVito (utility and passenger vans) are the icing on the cake. There’s almost no choice in Australia for electric vans apart from the Renault Kangaroo at the moment. The EQV offers a range of around est 350Km and 400Km for the eVito. The CCS charge port sits on the left-side of the front bumper. The 11kW water-cooled onboard charger enables AC wallbox charging, but it can also handle DC charging at a rate of 110kW, which should get the eVito from 10 per cent to 80 per cent capacity in about 45 minutes.
